Three Tortoises made the journey through to Falkirk to compete in the final cross country event of the season, the Scottish National Championships. Although the sun made an appearance for the start of the race, heavy rain in the days before the event made the course particularly tough going, not that it seemed to make any difference to Callum Hawkins or Morag MacLarty, who stormed home to take the men’s and women’s titles with commanding victories.

 

However, for us mere mortals the mud provided a formidable challenge on the 10K course. Caroline Millar was the first Tortoise home in the senior women’s race in 57:12, followed by Rob Carrol (47:07) and Fraser McPhail (49:56) in the senior men’s race. Despite the wet and muddy conditions it was an enjoyable experience, particularly the post-race bathing facilities. Luckily for us (!) George was on hand with his new toy to capture some moments of the race below…
