Four Tortoises braved the sleet, hail, rain and wind to run the Beith Harriers January road race.

I ran this two years ago and its a wee gem on the early running calendar, this was borne out by the fast  field with some strong running names from around  Ayrshire and further afield with at least one Aberdeen running vest on show.

After finally finding the registration area located at Kilbirnie Football Club no fault of Rob’s driving I hasten to add it was quick registration and payment of a whole £3 ,followed by Happy New Years to fellow Tortoises Ann Noble and Caroline Mutch and back then to the car to keep warm for the remaining half hour to race time.

Rob being typically Scottish opted for the running vest while I being ‘non Scottish’ opted for the running tights long sleeved top and rain jacket, seeing Ann & Caroline on the start line in there shorts and vests I realised I need to up my game in the kit department.

The route is  four circular laps around Lochshore Industrial Estate in Glengarnock, a tough course made more difficult on the day by the hailstones and sleet especially on lap one, it was at this point I thought I was the clever one with all the kit on but by the end of lap three I realised that the other three Tortoises would have the last laugh kit wise.

All four Tortoises posted great times with one Tortoise finishing first in there age group (Check the 2015 results page for who) however all four posted season best times !!

After words it was back to the registration area for the prize giving and hot soup a perfect end to a great wee race.
