Glasgow 10k and Half Marathon 1st October
Hi All
This week’s event in Glasgow is now upon us and the final long training runs are over, as with Alloa there are a large number of Tortoises running the 10k or half marathon, so as with Alloa here are a few pointers ahead of the race
• If your number has not arrived (like mine has not) you can pick this up Saturday or Sunday in George Square at the information desk from 8am
• Weather forecast looks like 15 degrees with rain showers.
• With this in mind remember a long sleeve top to wear before the race starts and throw away as you make your way to the start line – Troon has plenty of charity shops you can pick one up from
• You drop your pick up bag in George Square have dry clothes and a small towel for after the race,
• If you are taking gels, water etc on the run don’t leave them in your drop bag !
• If you are running the 10k bad luck there is no train that will get you there on time you will have to drive
• For those doing the half marathon we suggest taking the 09.25 train from Troon this will get you into Glasgow in good time to drop of your bag and use the toilet about six times
• Note this train does not stop at Barraise it goes Prestwick Town, Airport, Troon, Irvine, Kilwinning
• If you can, buy your ticket from the machine on the platform, this train will be busy and if the ticket man does not make it down the train there will be a long queue at the Glasgow barriers
• At this point I should say don’t forget your running shoes !!
• Don’t forget your number
• Don’t forget your toilet roll for the luxurious bathroom facilities
• The race has a big hill to start with so pace yourself at the beginning and it’s just an easy training run from there
• Post race hydration and nutrition (though mainly hydration) is important, that’s why we chosen to meet afterwards at the Bierkeller outside tent close to Central station its opposite Greaves Sports and TGI Fridays, anyone who wants to meet up post race head for there, if you have your own plans no worries
• Remember to upload to Strava and bask in Kudo’s of your fellow runners and Facebook likes from your friends who remember have done nothing more strenuous than turn over the TV while you have achieved something !!
Note the committee is currently putting together a 2018 transport schedule which will include club funded transport as we did for Alloa and Stirling this year races will include a 10k, Half Marathon, Full Marathon & Marathon relay event plus a cross country event ,as soon as we confirm which events have been selected we will let everyone know so that 2018 races can be booked and added to the diary.
Good Luck for Sunday run well
Darrell
