It is with deep sadness we wish to announce the passing on Tuesday 16th June, of John Melvin.
John was a stalwart member of Troon Tortoises for very many years serving Troon Tortoise first as a committee member then Club President and lately as a Honorary Member. John will be fondly remembered as a coach to the younger athletes from the 1980’s and beyond and for his organisation and help in the running of the Troon Tortoises 10k.
The Scottish Athletics community were saddened at the loss of John, who was an asset to them as an experienced coach, team manager, official & administrator. As a qualified field official John loved officiating on the High Jump and coaching athletes from various clubs from across Scotland and further afield, including his daughter Hazel, who represented Scotland at the 1994 Commonwealth Games in Canada. He always wanted to ensure young people got the opportunity to compete in sport and in particular Athletics.
A real family man, John will be sadly missed by his wife Evelyn, daughter Hazel and son Ewan his grandchildren & his many friends, colleagues and fellow Athletes.
