The last few week’s have seen the Troon Tortoise running vests out and about in strong numbers at all the local 10k races with runners venturing further afield at Perth and the Aberdeen Half Marathon.

The 10k season started in earnest at Dundonald where nine Tortoises were on the road with age grade podium finishers for Bruce and Anne with Lewis taking first U20 place, next stop was Paisley and Prestwick who’s dates clashed with four runners heading to Paisley and six heading along the coast to Prestwick where Liam finished fifth overall and Caroline running strong to a third lady finish.

Onto the Irvine Marymass which is turning out to be one of the favourite club race’s where PB’s are always possible on a flat fast course, this year was no exception with four PB’s achieved, four Tortoises achieved sub 40 minutes and all sixteen runners finished sub one hour, Anne and Lewis again had age graded podium finishes with Lewis continuing fine form with another 1st place U20, Onto the new event in Ayr where Matt and Annique ran the inaugural 10k race on a good flat course, further north we had John and Andrea McLean run the Perth 10k and Gordon Mcbain surviving the Aberdeen heat to run a strong  half marathon.

The next set of local road races include NAAC 10k 3rd September Cumbrae 10 mile race 10 September, Kilmacolm Half Marathon and 10k 10 September with The Great North Run also on 10th September
